A Kind Of Life

Born and brought up in Buon-Ma-Thuot, Central Highlands in South Vietnam. Migrated to Australia in 1985. Studied Arts in Northern Territory University and University of Technology Sydney.  

Since 1987, Thi practices mixed/multi-media arts in installation and video. Currently she also teaches art to people with special needs.

 

She has collaborated on projects with community members including detainees in the Villawood Detention Centre, also with other artists, performance directors and musicians including, Benni Seidel from Stretch M1, Tim Johnson, Karma Phunsok, Khoa Do, Lex Marinos, Tuan Ngoc Hoang and Azo Bell.

 

Her artwork is inspired by a wide variety of human survival stories. Her work has been selected as one of the HSC case studies since 2004 and included in many major exhibitions in Australian, USA and many Asian and European countries.

Thi has won a number of art awards, including the Jackson’s Drawing Prize (1994), Exhibition Award (Australian Council for the Arts 1994), New Work grants (Australia Council for the Arts,1999 & 2001), Project Grants (Ministry for the Arts, 1999, 2000 & 2001), Taipei Art Residency (Marrickville Council, Taipei Exchange Program, 2004) and Asialink Art Residency (Vietnam, 2006).
